Entry Requirements

Original certificates of your degree and GCSE qualifications are required at interview stage.

Please make sure these are to hand otherwise you will need to contact the exam board to obtain a certified copy.

GCSEs

All entrants need to have achieved a standard equivalent to a GCSE grade 4 or above in English and Mathematics*, and that all who intend to train to teach pupils aged 3-11 additionally have achieved a standard equivalent to a GCSE grade 4 or above in a Science subject.

Level 2 Adult Numeracy and Literacy

Qualifications in key numeracy and literacy and Functional Skills in numeracy and literacy at level 2 are not equivalent to GCSEs in terms of breadth of content.  You can take an equivalency test to show you have met the standard.  Please click here for more information,

Degree

A UK first degree (or equivalent)

Primary SCITT Tuition and Salaried PGCE courses:

  • Honours Degree, normally 2.2 or better (or equiv. 360 CAT points)

Secondary SCITT Tuition and Salaried PGCE courses:

  • First degree, normally 2.2 or better (or equiv. 360 CAT points). We screen subject knowledge during the interview process.

Overseas Qualifications

If your qualifications were not gained in the UK, you can visit the  National Academic Recognition Information Centre (NARIC) website www.naric.org.uk

to find out whether your qualifications are considered to be equivalent to UK GCSEs and degrees. Please note that the onus is on you to prove that your qualifications are equivalent and you must include a NARIC statement with your application verifying this.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.  Enhanced DBS checks will be carried out on all those accepted onto the course.

Undergraduate Degree - 3 years Education Studies with Qualified Teacher Status

112 UCAS tariff points (usually from a minimum of 2 A Levels, but other qualifications, including Access to HE and BTECs are considered).

A minimum of 5 GCSEs, at grade 4 or above (Grade C or above prior to 2017) or an equivalent standard qualification. These must include English Language, Mathematics and Science. For GCSE Science, BTEC Level 2 applied science with a minimum merit grade will also be accepted.
